One of the most frequently asked questions Chefs at The Cook’s Studio receive is, “What’s your favorite class to teach?” For most of the Chefs, it’s a tough question to answer because unlike many other recreational cooking schools, TCS Chefs teach ALL of the classes TCS offers, rather than specializing in just one particular type of cuisine.
Here, Chef Stef shares why her favorite class to teach is our extremely popular Chinese Dumplings class.
Q: Why did you pick Chinese Dumplings as your favorite cooking class at The Cook’s Studio?
A: Chinese Dumplings are one of my all time favorite things to eat– a day out in Flushing just eating as many dumplings as humanly possible is my idea of a great day! Teaching others how to make them– from scratch– is so fun and rewarding. Our guests are always so impressed with themselves that not only did they learn to make the chewy, delicious dough, but also how to pinch the dumplings closed in a variety of ways!

Q: Is there any special equipment required to make Chinese Dumplings?
A: At TCS, we use a wok and a bamboo steamer, but during your class your Chef instructor will explain how to recreate the recipe at home with the equipment you may already have!
Q: Is it hard to find ingredients for Chinese Dumplings?
A: Although Chinese Dumplings use a handful of ingredients that might not be pantry staples in your home– they’re not hard to find at all in your local Asian market. During class, your Chef instructor will give you insider tips for sourcing ingredients to recreate the TCS Chinese Dumplings recipe at home!
Q: Anything else you’d like to share?
A: Making your own dumplings might seem intimidating but I assure you, it is so much easier than you think and it’s such a blast! Even though I’ve taught this class countless times, I still eat at least 2 dumplings every class because they truly are that delicious.
